ADAPTorrent 0.1

ADAPTorrent is a torrent-derivative protocol. It's purpose is to facilitate anonymous downloads. Anonymity is achieved by shielding each peer behind a screen of the peers friends. Please see the master thesis site for the full specification.

What is ADAPT?

ADAPT is a torrent-derivative protocol developed as a master thesis project at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. It enhances traditional torrents with the ability to mask the IP-addresses of all involved peers (making them anonymous).

To describe how this is done in the shortest, simplest way possible, picture each peer employing a protective layer of friends, through which all torrent traffic is routed. Thus the actual peer is hidden. The routing friends in turn are protected by the fact that everything they are routing is end-to-end encrypted and therefore hidden from them. This ensures hard deniability for all friends in the protective layer. The complete protocol specification (aswell as all source code, under the GPL) is available from the master thesis site here

In order to make the protocol as accessible as possible, it does also allow downloading without a layer of friends. Doing this is considered downloading in “unsafe mode” since your IP will not be hidden when doing so.

    * Anonymous torrent-like downloads
    * End-to-end AES-128 encryption
    * XMPP friend presence detection
    * PHP tracker included in source package
