Alliance 1.0.7 Beta (with new groups feature)
Quote
We feel the best way to find bugs is to have the community test out the new code before Maciek even thinks about merging it in with the official source. WARNING: this post is long lol.

Some things to know about the beta.
1) Version check and auto updating has been turned off. If you plan to use this please remember that it will not auto update when the real thing comes out.
2) The windows version is a stand alone copy. this means it will not mess up your installed Alliance version. You can run this on a thumb drive or on the same computer...it doesn't matter. It will use a different port though.
3) This is a beta, we need your input and bug reports.
4) If your posting your network code on http://ordway.ath.cx:5121/alliance/ please add beta in the network name.
5) If your a programmer and wish to help please download the source and take a peek. If you fix anything please post a link in this thread to where we can get the source.

:: New Groups (Networks) Feature ::
This is the version of Alliance everyone has been waiting for. You can now set permissions on folders to allow only certain groups to access them. Now if you suddenly end up with 200 new friends that you don't know, they will only see the folders you have marked as public. They will not see the other folders unless you move them into a group.

Heres the run down on how it works.
1) Adding new folders to Alliance now pops up a new window asking what "group(s)" you want to allow access it. If left blank the folder will be set a "public" so anyone can access it regardless of if their in a group or not.
2) You can also edit folder's "groups" by pressing the "add files to share" button at the top and then selecting a folder and pressing edit. There's also a button above the friends list that does the same thing.
3) By default all friends are not set to a group. For security's sake you have to add them into a group yourself. To do this right mouse click on their name and click on "Edit Network Name". Then just type in a group name for a folder you want to give them access too.
4) You can select multiple users and edit their Network Names as well.

Right now there is no fancy gui set up to show who's in what group. For now the group a friend belongs to will show up next to their name (ex. Tom [group1] ).

:: Things on our todo list ::
Please note that just because these things are on the list does not mean they will all be added into the next version of alliance. Smaller bugs and features will be done with first. This list may increase over time depending on how motivated the programmers are.
1) Chat/pm notification sound support - sound support will be added so when a new message is sent, Alliance will play a sound file that you can set in the options. No more auto focusing or blinking windows :P.
2) Cleaning up some of the default settings. So examples, default hashing speed will be changed to something higher. Encryption labels will have their bit rate added so people stop asking what they are (ie. AES128bit, AES256bit..etc)
3) Hopefully SSL will be fixed completely...doubtful though

Please report all bugs, problems, ideas in this thread. Do not use the sourceforge bug tracker for beta bugs.
