Freenet userbase / size
« on: October 18, 2008, 06:47:35 PM »
Is there anyone who knows what the userbase / rough network size for Freenet is? I know that there aren't any official figures and that the exact number of users cannot be tracked, but a rough estimate would suffice.

From my own research I figured that there are 1.000+ active I2P users, 10.000+ active TOR users (some mentioned 100.000 but that seems high, but it might relate to non-active users as well) but when it comes to Freenet, I'm lost. The only number I found is several thousand, but that seems low given it press coverage and long history.

I think I2P has about 250 permanent users. My I2P router knows about 250 peers (because of the onion-tunnels it has to collect a list containing other peers).
But in some special applications it doesn't have such amount of users:
-running some BitTorrent downloads over I2P with I2PRufus it knows about 50 peers together in these swarms. About 15 peers in one popular BitTorrent swarm.
-I2Mule: last time I tried it I got about 5 peers.
-I2Phex: last time I tried it I got about 5 peers.

About Freenet0.7: I think it has mote users than Freenet0.5 some years ago, there are more freesites. I don't know, perhaps it has about 200-500 users.
-FreeMuleET: last time I tried it I got about 5 peers.

Does anyone have similar or different amounts of peers?

Greetings,
Nemo.
