Does multisource mean swarming in this context? Because with MUTE 0.5.1 multisourcing doesn't mean real swarming.

So MUTE and Kommute are not compatible with each other? I thought Kommute was a new client for the MUTE network like StealthNet is for RShare. Maybe I am wrong.

You are not wrong, Hummel. Kommute was indeed another client for the MUTE network, however it seems that the Kommute author did some tricks (maybe protocol changes?) to achieve multisourcing which makes it probably incompatible.

BTW: It must be at least a year or two ago since the Kommute autor decided to be pissed and left the Kommute forum here immediately. The only reason for this was that Ive asked him kindly to exchange some Kommute screenshots where some copyright infringements were shown. ;)

Cheers,
Markus

About the mutlisourcing here is the answer of one of the developpers :

Quote from: jmichault
I was asked how the multisource works in kommute. I will try to explain it. (sorry for my bad english)

First, here is how MUTE manage multisource : MUTE retrieves the list of sources for the file, then it calls the first chunk to the first source, wait for the result, then calls the second chunk to the second source, and so on, doing a rotation of the sources.

Since this does not have a true multisource, the code used by kommute was amended to include the following:

Kommute retrieves the list of sources for the file, then it calls the first chunk to the first source, the second chunk to the second source ,..., until the tenth without waiting for the answers. When the first chunk happens, it is written to the file, and kommute asks for eleventh. If a chunk other than the first happens, we keep it in memory until it is his turn to be written on the disk.
Thus all sources are used simultaneously.

In this way, kommute remains fully compatible with MUTE.

What kommute still do not:
- Use sources that have partially loaded a file.
- Download a file starting elsewhere than at the beginning.

About the multisource swarming, Kommute's compatibility with Mute and the fact that Mute's development is dead :

Quote from: jmichault
We can still do a lot of development while remaining fully compatible with MUTE 0.5.1.

If the MUTE core is really dead, then we should probably think about developing a kommute not fully compatible with MUTE 0.5.1. There is no problem with that.

For the multisource swarming, it's not yet critical, we needs first sources.

About my experience of Kommute 0.9 :
- It seems that Kommute have some crash problems under Windows and less under Linux (Ubuntu for me).
- Downloads are slow but it's hard to give a fair judgement since for the moment there are always only one source per file.
- A lot of features are needed but it seems that the developers are motivated.
- Can't wait for a new release

BTW: It must be at least a year or two ago since the Kommute autor decided to be pissed and left the Kommute forum here immediately. The only reason for this was that Ive asked him kindly to exchange some Kommute screenshots where some copyright infringements were shown. ;)
Weird stuff. I hope the developers will come back...
