This thread is intended to maintain a list of working MUTE web caches, so please post your web cache here if you can provide one.

These are not working correct.
So don't use them any more.

In the "settings" directory, open the file called "webHostCaches.ini" (all the settings files are just text only files) and remove them.

There is a new working cache.  \:D/

Put the following link in there:

Yes, this one is working. :-)

@joop: Thank you for the cache! :-)

->Just replace the non-working entries in "webHostCaches.ini" with the working URL above! I recommend to stop the MUTE application when you edit configfiles!

Jason is out of the picture :(  until at least the first of September.
He is busy on developing a game :o , and has to present it around that time. So, I think he has no time to update the sourceforge homepage.
Sorry, that's all I know about it.

This is why I updated the English MuteFaq and posted the known caches here.

I have no idea about network traffic and bandwidth usage.
I have no restrictions :D , so this is not an issue for me at the moment, but I think it can't be that much.
We (MUTE) are not that popular yet  .

The "update input" from a MUTE client is 48 characters (?client=MUTE&version=0.3&ip=123.123.123.123:1234).
Output is 2 characters (OK).

The " request for hosts"  input is 35 characters (?client=MUTE&version=0.3&hostfile=1).
Output is at the most 400 characters (20 times 123.123.123.123:1234).

And then there is the usual traffic when someone looks at your stats and data page through a browser.

I am working on an new cache based on the GWC version 2 specifications.
This one is just a bit more complicated to set-up because it uses MySQL to store the data.
With this version you can see the traffic usage and you will have the possibility to limit it. 8)

m2k1

The answer is a simple no.

It is useless running more than one cache, for a specific network, at one host .

1. If the cache host fails all caches you are running are down.  :(
2. A gnutella cache can attract a lot of traffic. Trafic can get as much as 5 GB a month when it has become popular (this will take a few months). Running more caches means more traffic for that host.

But if you want to run an other cache, the best thing to do is to run a gnutella cache. Then you will be supporting that network to.

:-s Why am I running more than one cache?
Mcache1, is the main cache for MUTE_net. This means this cache must always work so clients can hook-up to MUTE_net.
Mcache2, I use for beta testing new caches.
For alpha tests  ](*,) I use a complete different account.

Title: List of MUTE web caches
Post by: Emeo on November 16, 2004, 10:17:04 PM
I have temporarilly stopped my cache today on my own. :/ The bandwidth is really no problem, but there are thousands of users of other Gwebcache 1 compatible software (Gnutella, Morpheus, ...) who also try to use my cache. Because of that I have right now more then one connection attempt per second, while there is only one valid request per minute...  :x The current amount of connection attempts also seems to slowdown my router or my connection, at least everything gets slower and slower, until only a restart of the router and a reconnect helps...  :? Because of that I have now removed the script, until I have fixed these problems. (If that is possible... :/ ) I bet that this high connection churn is also the reason for cancelling your domain m2k1...
It would really help, if Mute would use a not Gwebcache 1 compatible cache system (Actually Mute does not use the Gnutella 1 network, so I would assume, that it also really should not use the normal GWebcache 1 protocol.), so that the caches are not flooded with senseless requests from other clients. (Perhaps using the GWebcache 2 protocol with the net parameter would also be ok, but I think the same as now would happen.)
Anyway, since there are at least 4 caches left, which should have no problems with the current request amount at least, I think it's no real problem if I take my cache down for some time. If there is a real need for a cache again, I will start it again, despite the fact that I probably won't be able to solve the connection amount problem...

Ok, I installed a Linux router and because that router has no problems with the connection amount, which the Gwebcache causes (currently ~2 connections per second), and thus does not slow down my whole internet connection, my cache (http://nodes.dyndns.org/mcache.php), is up again. :) I think, that it was never removed from the list of nodes for some reason, but if it was, then you can add it back.

Hello and welcome back Emeo,
I removed your cache from the wiki pages when you quitted.  ::)
But as you have found out, and I have said this several times before P2P clients have long memories about webcaches.  :P
People do not update their ini files. That’s the reason that your cache is found instantly the moment you bought it up again under the same name.
In the meantime I have added your cache to the wiki pages again.  8)

Sorry folks, i've had to remove my webcache.. it was getting so many connections that my machine just couldn't handle it and my bandwidth was being sucked away.

It wouldn't be so bad if it was only mute clients connecting, but it was every other P2P app that uses these types of ip lists even if it denies them.

Btw i dunno if anyone else noticed this but Mutella clients are being allowed to get IP lists, even though clearly they are not a MUTE client they give the same client response.

Can you please remove my cache from Wiki and SNU please.

Thanks

Best Regards
Evil-Dragon

Please delete the address "http://nodes.dyndns.org/mcache.php" from the lists and replace it with "http://nodes.gotdns.org/mc/mc.php". I have decided to drop the old one, and to go on with the new address. The php-script, which you find at the new address is slightly changed, and I hope, that these changes prevent gwebcache v1 clients from ever getting any response from my webserver, so that the address hopefully does not get as much spreaded in the gwebcache v1 network, as the old one. :) The old address will stop working as soon, as it is deleted from the different lists.

MUTE is a bit in the dying phase but I have intention to make some improvements at least for the connection phase in the future.

No.

EDIT: The normal download section works but the not the one specific to MUTE Add-Ons and tools and also I do NOT find MUTE Cache Checker just Seed Node Updater.

To be honest, I am little bit out of the anonymous networking business. Was MUTE really still alive in the last few years, without any noticeable development?

No.
Too bad. I have to check whether the MUTE Cache Checker is still somewhere alive on my hard disk. ;)

There is a very low amount of users but still works.
I hope to improve the situation by forking MUTE and improve the connection phase and the installer.

I'm the developer of Skulls GWebCache, currently it is the only one that can work on all networks and correctly separate MUTE (mute net) from Mutella (gnutella net) clients.

Once you find it I will also mirror it if you want, just to be sure.
