I just found an inproxy for surfing on Freenet 0.5! I didn't know that there's still activity on this network (successor Freenet 0.7 is actively maintained; Freenet 0.5 is no more available on www.freenetproject.org ; many Freenet client applications died or were ported to the new Freenet Client Protocol 2.0 implemented in Freenet 0.7).

You need to have I2P running for surfing to this inproxy:
http://fproxy.tino.i2p/servlet/nodeinfo/

(I remember that Tino serves an inproxy for I2P from Internet, so it should be possible to surf on Freenet 0.5 via WWW->I2P->Freenet0.5...)

It's still amazing that there's still an active Freenet 0.5 Freesite index:

The Freesite index finds still new or updates Freesites:

Who says Freenet 0.5 is dead? It's still working...  Wink

Is there anyone who can tell a bit about the remaining activities in Freenet 0.5? Where to get the latest stable build and up to date seednodes for Freenet 0.5?

Greetings,
Nemo.

Greetings,
Nemo.

Oh 0.5 is still alive and kicking.  Frost boards have been a bit slow lately but there's still plenty of us die-hard types hanging around.  as for getting the latest stable build and fresh seednodes, you can get them two places that I know of.

http://downloads.freenetproject.org/

and on my "Un-official Freenet 0.5 alternative download" site, http://peculiarplace.com/freenet/ where I have downloads for the last few builds and a seednodes file that I export from my own node occasionally.

The most recent stable build is 5109, which among other things incorporated the "painkiller" mods so that you can use them without having to re-compile freenet yourself.

Another change with 5109 is that TFE and Dolphin's index have been removed from the default bookmarks (both sites have long ago stopped being updated since their creator(s) have moved to 0.7) and replaced with sites containing helpful information for Freenet newbies.
